We had our vision and knew our ideals from such research. How did we
make it possible to achieve a whole new level or surgery in hair
transplantation?
Innovation and Experimentation. We knew that in order to create a better
way, a better look, a method had to be created to be used as a standard
to change the status quo. We looked at the many instruments available
for doing the kind of measurement, extraction, and surgical alteration
of the areas described and we knew they would not suffice. So, we set
about creating new ones.
Working in conjunction with a medical supply manufacturer we developed a
relationship to create the necessary devices.
The Khan Densitometer
One major problem of such surgery was the determination of suitable
donor hair areas on the scalp. To accurately evaluate the density of
donor sites, we developed an optical device which allowed accurate
counting of hairs in a four millimeter round or square area. The lenses
had to be adjustable and the device had to be mountable against the head
to conduct such a count with precision. In this way we can rule out
inadequate sites quickly and avoid problem areas which might appear
sparse after removing the necessary graft hairs.
Our Densitome allows us to do this efficiently and within a time frame
suitable for same day surgery completion. The surgeon no longer needs to
strain or estimate for such sites, eliminating the first problem
encountered with developing our new method.
The Khan Variable Depth Blade Holder
Two of the biggest pitfalls of any surgery are the pain caused and
blood flow disruption to the body. We wanted to insure that a new
method would not create these problems. We knew the physical
structure of the skin on the skull - the scalp - and knew the limits
our surgical team would have to avoid encountering nerves and blood
vessels. The problem was there were no tools to do this
consistently. Patients relied solely on the surgeon's skill and
sense of touch.

We developed the Khan Variable Depth Blade Holder and the process of
controlling the removal of grafts became effortless. The ultra fine
precision of this instrument does not allow the surgeon to penetrate
deeper than necessary when removing grafts. These features allow
greater accuracy in the removal of many hairs simultaneously. The
interchangeable shims can create desired width of donor strips.

Graft Preparation System
The most time consuming and difficult part of hair transplantation was
preparing the single hair grafts and two- and three-hair grafts. We
invented the powered microscopic projection system, which enables us to
prepare individual follicular units by looking at the projected image.
This system eliminates any damage to even the baby hair follicles. In
conjunction with this technical marvel, we have the services of hair
transplant surgery nurses with decades of combined experience in this
highly specialized area.
Surgical Time Compression
One difficult aspect of hair transplantation had been the time necessary
to remove and implant these hundreds of tiny hair grafts. That is
probably why prior to the I.L.H.T. advanced method of transplantation,
planting individual hairs had been avoided by other surgeons. Thanks to
all of our technical innovations the average patient with a large area
to be created can expect the entire surgery to be completed in only a
few hours. Our patients come to us healthy and leave just as healthy.

appreciate our new technique.
